It's probably too long. I probably don't know how to spell very well. Somewhere, a story like this one has likely already been told. If for some reason you make it to the end and still don't like it, I will gladly give you a refund.
**********************************************************
I sat enjoying my lunch, at The Lodge, when a couple took seats at the table next to me. At first, I paid them no attention, watching the recap of the weekend NFL games. My second pint of amber had just been delivered, and I overheard the man speaking quietly to his companion. Normally, I'm not that big on public drama, but it was Tuesday and I was bored, so I listened intently.
"Jane, why do you want to end this? What we have is very special to me," he practically whined.
I heard a sniffle, then, "Dave, I've really enjoyed our time together, but if I get caught, it would be devastating. I can't take that chance anymore."
With that, she got up and left the guy sitting there dejected. I could tell that she was on the verge of tears as she almost ran to the door. The man sat there for a few quiet minutes, until the waitress reappeared, asking if he needed anything else. He simply told her no.
Talk about an awkward moment.
I felt bad for the guy, but at the same time, it sounded like they were having some kind of an affair, so I didn't feel that bad for the guy. That got me thinking about how they might have gotten started, and who they were sneaking around on. Like I said, it was Tuesday.
Just then, a large group of my co-workers from another team arrived, taking two whole tables on the other side of the place. I had always thought of them as nice people, but a few of my co-workers thought of the group as snobbish, even arrogant. I had always just thought they were fun to talk with and were genuinely good at their jobs. One of the reasons I enjoyed my job so much, was the professionals that I worked with.
Just when I thought the day couldn't get any more interesting, I saw Frank walk over to the groups' table and yell loudly, asking them why he hadn't been invited to go with them. At that point you could have heard a pin drop in the place, as butts shuffled uncomfortably in chairs. The bartender decided that was a good time to turn up the volume a bit on the music playing.
I didn't hear much else coming from the groups' table, and decided that I should settle my tab, and head back to the office. Once I got back to my desk, I put in my ear buds and got back to work. As I typed my lines of code, and sent a few emails, I thought about what I'd seen and heard at lunch.
Frank losing his temper seemed so sad. Frank wasn't really a bad guy, just was really hard to be around. He was the kind of person that told a good story, and then felt he had to tell you ten more. I had found the best way to deal with Frank, was to talk for about two minutes, and when he took a breath to start his second story, I would look away, and just walk away. He never seemed to mind, so I just went back to whatever I'd been doing.
What did bother me, was how he'd handled not being invited along for a group lunch. His rant at the bar had seemed childish, and completely unnecessary. "Oh well," I thought.
The other situation I'd overheard at lunch, intrigued me. Perhaps I would write a short story about it, imagining the entire scenario as a big long drama. Her husband didn't want sex as much as she did, so she went looking for it elsewhere. After a torrid affair with that guy, Dave, her guilt begins to consume her, so she arranges to meet Dave and tell him it's over.
She went back to her house, and did like all clichés, promising herself that she'd be the best wife and mother she could for her family. Only time would tell if that marriage would survive, or crumble because he might find out the truth of her infidelity.
Dave, sad to have lost the best pussy he'd ever had, moped for a few days before going back online to find another cheating wife. His own wife, after giving birth to their twins a year ago, decided that she didn't need sex in her life anymore.
My eyes focused back on my screen, and I thought while smiling, "Poor Dave."
This guy has so much spare time on his hands that he can sit around and invent "situations" for random passers bye? Better that he lives his own life - unless he plans to build his casual musings into a LovingWives story.
I see it as somewhere between a 3 and a 4 at most BUT that's just my uneducated opinion.......
My take on this.
"Jane, why do you want to end this? What we have is very special to me," he practically whined.
I heard a sniffle, then, "Dave, I've really enjoyed our time together, but if I get caught, it would be devastating. I can't take that chance anymore."
The man listening to them, turns to face them and tells her " Jane you are right, don't bother coming home
(he was Jane's Husband.)
