*****
The moonlight reflected off the water like little diamonds. She was walking along the coast leaving small memories imprinted in the wet sand. The wind blew bringing the salt air across the waves and into her face. Her hair was gently tussling in the wind and wrapping itself around her face. She was a beauty, he admired. Across the sands, next to a palm tree stood a tall man with deeply tanned skin. In the night he was a shadow blending in with his surroundings. He admired her beauty from afar. Her white cotton dress blowing in the breeze made her look like a Goddess that came to grace these lands. She couldn't have been taller than 5'5" with long dark auburn hair. Felix had noticed her the day before in the tiki bar; she was sipping on a mango and spiced rum infused drink. When she giggled it was like listening to an angel. Felix was working at the resort so it offered him plenty of chances to see her. Good news for him, he never saw her with a boyfriend or husband and he noticed no sign of a wedding band. She made this walk every night he noticed, to his delight. Everything about her was perfect! How could someone just walk yet be so graceful to almost glide? How could he get her to notice him?
The minutes drew on as he watched her slowly walking down the beach; the world seemed to stop around him. All of a sudden she stopped and turned to the water. That's odd, he thought. All the nights she would walk the beach she never stopped. He felt like something grabbed his heart as he watched her lift her white dress over her head and toss it to the sand. From the distance he could see she had on a dark bikini, her physique was a sexy toned. He watched her walk into the water, deeper and deeper she went. It sure was a beautiful evening for a night time swim he thought. Felix decided to move up a ways to get a closer view so he stayed in the shadows and moved forward. He knew with the wind and the waves she wouldn't be able to hear him so being totally quiet was not needed. He finally made it to a good viewing spot, less than 20 feet from where she was swimming. Wow, was she beautiful. It felt like hours he sat there, admiring her from afar but it was only about 10 minutes. Felix was lost in thoughts of him and her sharing a bottle of wine, laughing at the world. A smile played upon his lips as the thoughts danced in his vision bringing to life his fantasy world until a terrifying screamed ripped through the breeze, bringing him back to reality as fast as a bolt of lightning hits the ground.
From the water, the scream tore through the night. Felix took off in a full sprint towards the water, tearing his shirt off in the process. He leapt over the water, clearing at least 6 foot of the tide before he hit the water with a splash. The cold water entombed his body, salt taste overwhelmed his mouth. She wasn't far from where he landed, he had to reach her! Fighting through the taste and cold he pressed forward in a mighty power stroke. Felix was a gifted swimmer, and being next to the ocean helped in that regard. He lifted his head and gulped in a large breath of air the taste of salt still heavy. Not far ahead, maybe 4 feet he could see a hand raised out of the water, slowly sinking. Powering forward he grabbed about blindly under the water like a lost fish trying to find its way. Fear started to clench at his throat and chest as he couldn't find her; had an under-current pulled her from his reach? With more vigor he swept about faster until he felt an arm. With a grip like a vise he latched on to her arm and pulled her into his chest, never letting go. His right arm wrapped around her limp body as he turned and kicked the water away, pushing them towards the shore. Not knowing if she was dead played tricks in Felix's mind.
It seemed like an eternity getting her back to dry land but that fear made survival kick in, nothing would stop him. Finally, he was able to stand with ease out of the water. She was limp in his arms but Felix had to save her. Pulling her ashore to dry ground, he hastily laid her down and placed his ear to her chest. She wasn't breathing. Felix had been trained in CPR for many years as it was a requirement for his job at the resort. Placing his hands on her chest he started a rhythm; press, press, press, press. He adjusted her head and opened her mouth. Softly placing his lips upon hers he exhaled deep into her mouth, filling her lungs and breaking any blockages of water that may be in the way. With a start she jerked up coughing and spitting saliva and ocean water into his face. She rolled over, gasping for breath but clearly going to be alright. Felix sighed a breath of relief and collapsed on the sand, the chill of the water and breeze setting in bringing to life goose bumps all over his skin.
"What happened?" She said breathlessly, still coughing and trying to regain composure.
"I was walking nearby and heard you scream. I ran as fast as I could to get to you. Are you ok?" Felix asked, his words filled with compassion.
"I think so." She said; the coughing subsiding. "I'm so lucky you were nearby. May I know the name of my rescuer?"
"I'm Felix; I work here at the resort. I was taking my nightly stroll when I heard you. Good yet bad timing I guess." Felix replied; not revealing the fact he was only out there to gaze upon her beauty. Even after the events that unfolded she still looked like a Goddess sitting there with her hair dripping beads of salt water and sand sticking to her skin like armor.
"Well, I don't know how I could ever repay you, Felix. My name is Issabell. Can I buy you a drink, or are you still working?" She asked while getting to her feet.
"A drink sounds fantastic! Can it be something other than salt water?" He asked jokingly.
A giggle born from angel song left her lips. "Anything but salt water sounds lovely!" She replied.
Felix walked over and picked up her white, cotton dress from the sand and gave it a shake. Tiny pieces of sand rained about returning to their rightful place on the beach. He returned and handed it to her, marveling in her beauty as she pulled it down over her head. They walked together towards the resort making small talk as the wind died and the sound of the waves drifted away.
