"And you honestly think that getting married will stop it?"

"I at least want to try."

"Well, this has to go down as the strangest way to propose to a girl."

"I wouldn't be asking at all if I didn't love you, though."

"But, if we get married, I don't want to have to keep it a secret. I'd want people to see, to know. I can't stand the idea of it all really just being a lie. I'd want my white dress. I'd want it to be in a church. I'd want everything that's part of a normal wedding. But if I marry you, I can't have that or we'd go to jail."

"Can't you just be happy having me in a marriage for life? That's what really about, not the wedding."

"I know but I'm a girl. I want a wedding. And after we're married, I can't have my husband sleeping around behind my back. Can you promise me the threesomes will stop if we get married?"

"I don't know. I didn't get the details. But what do you think? Could I be an actor?"

"I hear acting is a tough business but if you want to try for it, I'll support you."

"And me too." Terri said.

"Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that. The guy said he needed to cast a woman too and I was thinking of mentioning you."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Why not? The only thing is ... um ... Ok, see like, the play is about a guy who gets married and but then starts dating this other girl on the side."

"I'm not sure you want to be in a play like that." my sister said.

"And you want to suggest your sister for that?" my mother asked.

"Not for the girl the guy has a romance with. The other one. The one he has to marry on stage."

At that moment my sister figured out what I was really trying to say but of course our mother was still in the dark.

"I don't think any director would cast siblings to pretend to get married on stage." my mother said.

"Would we have to act out the honeymoon?" my sister asked.

"No. We just share a short kiss and if we get the angle right we won't even have to touch lips."

"I still don't think it's a good idea." my mother said.

"Well, I'm going to go to the audition. Maybe I'll get lucky."

"Yeah, and it sounds like something I might be interested in. I'll go with you." my sister said. "As long as the director doesn't want us to actually kiss, I think it should be fine."

"I don't want either of you to say I don't support you in your endeavors but I think you'll both be disappointed if you think anyone will cast siblings, actors in a play or not, as anything romantic. They won't do it."

"If they don't then they don't but I'm going to audition. I can call the guy tomorrow and ask for a script to get ready."

"Get me one too. And you know, if it's only a very short kiss and you keep your tongue to yourself, I guess I could tolerate kissing you."

"John. Don't call your sister ugly."

After my sister left and my mother gave me peace I decided to make a few phone calls and test something.

"This is John. Remember me?"

"Um ... Not sure. English class?"

"I just wanted to ask you something."

"What?"

"Not on the phone, though. I need to see you in person. Do you have transportation?"

She said she did and I gave her the address. Good. Done. Next phone call.
